9 Eye-Care Tips

The world out there has stored so much for you to see...therefore it is essential to take care of your eyes. These body organs are very sensitive. Unfortunately, in our busy schedules, we often overlook eye care. Here are some general tips to take care of your eyes:

  1. The very first thing to do is to avoid rubbing your eyes every now and then. Our hands are exposed to a lot of bacteria and dirt and dust that can easily be transferred. So each time you rub your eyes, you actually are worsening the situation rather than making it any better. So avoid rubbing your eyes, the habit is one big cause of eye infection or itching.

  2. Now, this practice is not to be incorporated for eye care particularly but in general as well. You should practice your hand washing frequently. This ensures that bacteria are far away from your hand which gets in contact with eyes, spectacles and lenses very frequently.

  3. Gone were the days, when eyeglasses were merely a need for people with vision problem. Now it has become more of a “need” to protect eyes from harmful UV rays of the sun. Yes, these rays are very harmful to your eyes as well. So put on those stylish sunglasses or even spectacles with UV protected lenses and protect your eyes apart from establishing a style statement. Also, if possible try to wear hats and caps when are in direct exposure to sunlight.

  4. Smoking is injurious to health. It makes you more prone to age-related macular degeneration and even severe eye conditions like cataract. Also, the optic nerve of the eye can be damaged by the practice of smoking which adversely affects your vision.

  5. Staying hydrated is essential for eye care as well. Hydration ensures that your eyes are not dry and irritated. So have lots and lots of water and fruits or vegetables with high water content.

  6. A diet also plays an important role in well being of eyes. Foods rich in Vitamin A, C, and E are good for eye health. Apart from these nutrients, for well being of eyes, your body also needs Omega-3, Beta-carotene and Lutein. So make sure your diet should be full of food enriched with these different nutrients.

  7. We live in a digital era and are surrounded by screens of laptop, television, and mobile and of several different gadgets. Make sure you keep these screen positioned away about a distance of an arm. This is one practice which is essential to keeps your eyes from getting strained.

  8. You should also consider the lighting of the space as it is also vital for the eyes. Dim lights put a lot of stress on eyes to focus. Also, too bright lights aren’t good as well as they also put a lot of strain to focus. Adjust your light settings.
